Local SEO

What your Google Business Profile is actually doing for you.

When someone in Koh Samui searches for a restaurant, a dive shop, a massage, or a hotel, Google shows a map and a list of nearby businesses before any website links. That panel is powered by Google Business Profile. If your listing is incomplete, unverified, or incorrect, customers find someone else.

Claiming and verifying a listing is free. Go to business.google.com, search for your business or add it, and follow the verification steps. Most verifications use a postcard sent to the business address, though phone and video verification are sometimes available. If you skip this step, anyone can suggest edits to your listing and some of those edits go live automatically.

The information that matters most is the same information customers need to visit you: business name, address, phone number, and opening hours. These must match exactly what your website says. Inconsistencies confuse both customers and Google. Add a primary category that reflects your main service, a secondary one if useful, and real photos of the actual space, actual food, or actual team. Stock images perform worse than honest ones.

Common mistakes: choosing a category that is too broad or too specific, leaving hours blank, never responding to reviews, and using a tracking phone number that differs from your website. Reviews do not need to be gamed. Responding to every review - positive or negative, in the language the customer used - is more useful than any other review strategy.

Google Business Profile is one local SEO signal among many. But it is the most visible one for map searches, and it costs nothing except the hour it takes to fill in properly. If you have not checked your profile recently, that is the place to start. If it looks fine but your listing still underperforms, that is usually a sign of deeper signals that an SEO audit can identify.
